The Explorer Series: Invisible City Symphonies exhibition was conceived as a traveling exhibition which can and should adapt to the space in which it takes place.

The way it works:

VIDEOKILLS and our local partner in (FILL IN YOUR CITY NAME HERE) put out a call for submissions to Filmmakers/Video Artists from all over the world to submit SILENT FILMS/VIDEOS 2-10 minutes in length. We put out a call for participation for LOCAL musicians from the city in which the exhibition will take place. We allow 1-2 months depending on the timeline of the exhibition for films to come in and for musicians to express interest in composing original scores for the films. Musicians submit samples of their past work.

Once all the submissions are in, VIDEOKILLS chooses a film/VIDEO for each musician. The musician then receives the video and has 1-2 months (depending on the timeline of the exhibition) to compose an original score for the film. The composition does not need to be recorded or approved by VIDEOKILLS. The only requirement is that the musician(s) are able to perform the score live on the decided upon day of the exhibition.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The HOST(s) or VENUE should provide the following:

  • PA system
  • Basic stage/sound set up (incl. mics/stands/monitors/mixing board)
  • Experienced Sound technician
  • Projector
  • Screen

Of course the specifics of these requirements are negotiable depending on the venue. If we decide to put up an exhibition on a boat and we want all the musicians to just play acoustic, that can also be done. Basically, anything we decide is possible.
